Safiya & Daren Miller
No Boundaries Scholarship

Safiya and Dare Miller 2018.jpg

Siblings Safiya and Daren pay it forward within their community by giving back through the Safiya & Daren Miller No Boundaries Scholarship. They began this effort when they invited the MIMS Institute Fellows Inc. to serve as administrator of the scholarship on their behalf in 2012 when Daren graduated from Duke University.  Safiya, a 2009 graduate of Harvard College, and Daren are alumni of the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program at St. Petersburg High School in St. Petersburg (Pinellas County), Florida. Though they lived in the ZIP code (33705) with the highest incidences of juvenile crime in the county, their parents, Winston and Joan Miller, guided them to always demonstrate Academic Excellence, Serve Others, and Be Kind.

Safiya works for Microsoft in San Francisco and Daren works for Google in New York City.  Their employers match their donations each year.  Since 2013, the siblings have been able to award over $24,000 in Safiya and Daren Miller No Boundaries Scholarships to Emerging Leaders in Florida and Texas.

In Safiya's words

"I believe to whom much is given, much is required, and I pay it forward within my community by emphasizing the importance of empowerment through education.

Our scholarship honors young people that dare to dream big and pursue America’s best post-secondary opportunities. Daren and I both graduated from the St. Petersburg International Baccalaureate Program in St. Petersburg, Florida, and always encourage students to: 1) step out of their comfort zone and 2) remember there are no boundaries to what you can achieve in life."
